Exporting Codes
By the end of this guide, you'll have exported your gift card codes as a spreadsheet file you can open in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet app.
Export a single batch
- Open BatchCard in your Shopify admin.
- Click the batch you want to export.
- Click Export CSV.
- BatchCard downloads a spreadsheet file to your computer.
Export multiple batches
- Go to the Batches page.
- Click Export CSV in the Export column next to each batch you want.
Each batch downloads as its own spreadsheet file.
What's in your export
Your export is a spreadsheet (CSV) file named like batchcard_your-batch-name_2026-05-20_143022.csv. It includes one row per gift card.
These columns are always included:
| Column | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Code | The full gift card code. Included for active cards only. |
| Value | The card's value. |
| Status | Active, failed, or cancelled. |
| Created Date | When the card was created. |
| Prefix | The code prefix, if you set one. |
| Suffix | The code suffix, if you set one. |
| Batch Name | The name of this batch. |
| Tags | The batch's tags, separated by semicolons. |
| Shopify Gift Card ID | The card's ID in Shopify. |
| Anonymized At | The date data retention removed the recipient details from this card. Empty for every card that has not been anonymized. This is the last column in the file. |
These columns are included only when they apply to the batch:
| Column | Appears when |
|---|---|
| Recipient Email, Recipient First Name, Recipient Last Name, Message, Notification Status | The batch sends email notifications, any card has a recipient, or any card has been anonymized. |
| Note | Any card in the batch has a per-card note. |
| Expires On | Any card has an expiration date. |
| Delivery Status | The batch sends email notifications. |
| Scheduled Send At | The batch is scheduled for later. |
Note column
The Note column holds the private, per-card note from your import. It is for your team only and is never shown to customers. See the CSV format reference.
Rows for anonymized cards
A card that data retention has anonymized carries a date in Anonymized At, and its recipient columns read differently. Recipient Email holds a masked address like b*****@d.com, Recipient First Name holds initials like B. R., and Recipient Last Name, Message, and Notification Status are empty. That is the export working as intended, not a broken file. The code, value, and status columns are untouched.
Open the export in a spreadsheet app

Google Sheets
- Go to sheets.google.com and click Blank spreadsheet.

Common use cases for exports
| Use case | What to do |
|---|---|
| Accounting | Export codes with values and dates. Import into your accounting software. |
| Physical distribution | Export codes and print them for in-store handouts or gift card inserts. |
| External delivery | Export codes with recipient details and use your own email system. |
| Backup | Export all batches periodically as a record of every code created. |
Exported files contain the full gift card codes. Store them securely, just like you would store cash or credit card numbers.
